China’s Commerce Ministry denounced the U.S. as a "global economic bully" on Tuesday, vowing retaliatory measures after Washington imposed sweeping tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese electric vehicles, semiconductors, and renewable energy components. The 45% duties, announced late Monday, mark the steepest unilateral trade restrictions since the Trump administration, prompting an immediate 5% drop in Shanghai’s stock market. "America’s reckless protectionism will backfire," warned Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, hinting at export controls on rare earth minerals critical for U.S. defense and tech industries.
