Myanmar has generated approximately $290 million from the export of 840,000 tonnes of rice and broken rice during the first four months of the current fiscal year, spanning April to July. This figure represents a slight increase in both volume and value compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, reflecting a continued strong demand for Myanmar’s staple grain. The exports were conducted primarily through maritime trade, with a smaller portion moving through border crossings, and major destinations included China, the Philippines, and various countries within the European Union. A spokesperson from the Myanmar Rice Federation noted that the stability of international prices and consistent production have been key factors in maintaining these robust export numbers. The government’s focus on promoting high-quality rice strains and establishing direct trade agreements is aimed at further expanding market access and increasing export earnings in the coming months.
