President Trump issued an unprecedented executive order Friday authorizing sanctions against law firms representing clients in lawsuits against his administration, specifically naming Perkins Coie - the firm that represented Democratic campaigns and whistleblowers - as "a threat to national security." The order empowers the Treasury Department to freeze assets of any firm receiving more than $500,000 annually from "partisan political operations," with 15 firms immediately placed on a review list.
