Pierre Poilievre's Conservative Party secured a minority government in Canada's snap federal election Monday night, winning 158 seats but falling short of the 170 needed for a majority as Mark Carney's centrist Progressive Canadian Party captured an unprecedented 42 seats. The election results revealed a fractured political landscape, with the Liberals reduced to 85 seats and the NDP holding 32. "Canadians have clearly rejected the radical left but aren't ready to fully embrace conservatism," Poilievre told supporters in Ottawa, pledging to prioritize tax cuts and energy exports. Carney, the former Bank of Canada governor, declared his new party's performance "the birth of a pragmatic alternative," having siphoned votes from both traditional parties.
